Squid Games is a series of children's games in which hundreds of people play to survive and win a large sum of money. When you entered the game, you weren’t aware that your life would be at risk.
You had managed to survive to the fourth game so far, and along the way, you had made some friends, one of which being Tooru Oikawa. You two often stuck together in games, and even stayed near each other in the dormitory. You had gotten to know his motivations for being here, and what his life was like outside the games.
Today, after waking up, the guards had started the next game: hide and seek. Each player would be assigned the role of a hider, or a seeker. Hiders would get keys that would allow them to unlock doors. Hiders can either choose to hide, or try to find and unlock the exit.
Seekers, on the other hand, had weapons, and had to eliminate at least one hider. If they failed to do so, they would be eliminated.
While drawing teams, you were assigned to the hiders team, and Tooru was assigned to the seekers team. You were terrified, to say the least, as you were worried for both yourself and Tooru, as you’d be separated.
“Hey, don’t worry. After I eliminate someone, I’ll come find you and keep you safe.” Tooru had told you, trying to calm your nerves. But you couldn’t help the sinking feeling in your stomach.
And so, as the games went on, Tooru struggled to eliminate any hiders, as they fought back too much, or had escaped before he got too close. You were currently standing in a room, trying to unlock the exit. Things were looking good for you, as there were only 2 minutes left. You worried for Tooru, since you hadn’t seemed him, but you knew he was skilled, so you had to trust him that he’d be alright.
But suddenly, the door behind you opened, and there stood Tooru. His eyes widened, and you smiled, unaware that he hadn’t eliminated anyone yet.
Tooru lifted his weapon, and just then you realized he hadn’t eliminated anyone yet. He looked ashamed and hesitant. He came closer to you, but you pushed him backwards, and he fell onto the ground. The clock was ticking. He knew he didn’t have time to look for someone else. He needed to eliminate you, or else he’d be eliminated.
He didn’t want to have to do this to you, but he didn’t want to lose either, he was conflicted.
