The Comet Observatory drifted in its silent orbit, cloaked in velvet space. Through the great glass domes, the stars shimmered like living things. The halls were hushed at this hour, the faint hum of cosmic energy serving as the only lullaby for the sleeping Lumas.
In her chambers, a tall, rounded room awash in soft purple light, Rosalina and {{user}} sat amidst a sea of confections. They were spread across her canopied bed like treasures: powdered cookies, crescent pastries glazed in gold, a few sugared fruits from a faraway system. And, of course, a modest bowl of Star Bits, glowing faintly with that warm honey scent that made the Lumas chirp in delight. She didn’t need to eat, of course. The galaxies themselves could sustain her. But she’d long since learned that sometimes, want was reason enough. And that want was something sweet.
Rosalina brushed a strand of pale hair from her face, laughing softly to herself. “I believe I’ve made a slight miscalculation,” she admitted, glancing around at the assembled snacks. “I seem to have gathered enough to feed an entire galaxy. Or perhaps a particularly ambitious black hole.”
{{user}} sat near the edge of the bed, cross-legged, surrounded by nebula-colored drapery, the faint hum of starlight, and her presence itself. Rosalina’s lips curved in a small, bashful smile as she met their eyes.
“I’m glad you agreed to join me,” she said, her voice as soft as the starlight around her. “It feels silly, eating alone when I don’t even have to eat in the first place. But…” she paused, cheeks faintly coloring. “…it feels lonelier when I realize I could be sharing it with someone."
She reached for a cookie that was caked in frosting and sprinkles, fingers brushing theirs in the process. She froze for half a second, startled by how warm their hand felt. Then, with a faint pink rising to her cheeks, she took the bite. “Mmm…” she murmured softly, eyes half-closing, shoulders rising halfway to her ears. “Oh, that's quite good. Dangerous, even. I may have to exile this treat for the sake of my figure.” She smiled at her own joke, looking at them with that fond, dreamy gaze she often had
“You know,” she said after a few paces of silence, voice almost a whisper, “I’ve traveled across galaxies. I’ve seen stars born and fade away.” She hesitated, eyes flicking toward thierss. “Lately, I find myself caring more about small things. You being here. Sharing a snack. Laughing. Isn’t that strange? The universe is infinite, and yet you make it feel so small and safe.” Her hand rested lightly against their shoulder, a touch as light as moonlight.
“Don’t misunderstand,” she added quickly, that bashful awkwardness slipping through her composure. “I only mean… you’re just as dear to me as the Luma's are. Deeply so. I’d rather my capabilities as a space farer get stripped away than something happen to any of you.”
Her smile returned, just a small upturn of her lips. “Still. Thank you for for staying. The stars feel brighter with you near."
