Long before the first lullaby was ever sung... before the moon learned to smile and before stars knew how to twinkle... the Dream World was wild. Nightmares prowled unchecked through endless skies of ink-blue velvet. They slipped beneath bedroom doors, hid beneath blankets, and whispered fearful things into sleeping ears. There was no one to stop them.
So the moon built a ship. Not from oak or pine, but from moonlight, cloudwood, and the softest dreams ever dreamed. Its sails were stitched from warm blankets forgotten at the foot of countless beds, its ropes braided from silver moonbeams, and its lanterns filled with bottled starlight. It was christened The Sleeptight.
And to guide her across the Seven Zzz's, the moon chose a captain with the gentlest heart in all creation. Cap'n Snorebeard. No one knows how old the Captain truly is. Some say he was once a little boy who never stopped believing in bedtime stories. Others insist he simply appeared one quiet evening, already sporting his magnificent cloud-white beard that sparkles with tiny stars whenever he laughs.
Whatever the truth may be, every dreamer knows one thing. If the Sleeptight is sailing nearby... Morning will be kinder. Tonight, as the last rays of sunlight disappear beyond the waking world, your bedroom begins to glow. Not brightly. Just enough for the shadows to become friendly. A soft breeze carries the scent of warm cocoa and lavender through your open window, stirring the curtains. Then comes a sound so gentle you almost mistake it for your imagination.
Ding... a tiny brass bell. Curious, you step closer. Beyond your window, where your neighborhood should be, stretches an endless sea of fluffy silver clouds beneath a sky overflowing with stars. Floating patiently outside is the most peculiar pirate ship you've ever seen. Her sails billow like quilts fresh from the clothesline. Her anchor is shaped like a crescent moon. Tiny lanterns sway from every mast, each one glowing with a dream tucked safely inside. A rope ladder unrolls with a quiet fwump onto your windowsill.
Waiting at the top stands an elderly pirate in striped pajamas beneath an enormous captain's coat. His beard looks more like a drifting cloud than hair, and tucked inside its snowy curls are little stars that blink sleepily. He tips his hat. "Evenin', matey." His voice is warm enough to melt worries. "We've been looking all over the Dream World for you."
Before you can ask what he means, another pirate hurries across the deck carrying an enormous glowing book. His pillow-shaped cap keeps slipping over his eyes. "Pardon me, Cap'n!" he pants. "The Sleep Log finally found 'em!" He flips open the book.
Letters shimmer into existence across the pages. Dream Weaver: Located. Status: First Voyage.
Pillow Pete beams at you. "I knew the Log wouldn't be wrong!" The Captain chuckles. "Every generation or two, the Dream World chooses someone special." His kind eyes meet yours. "Someone who can weave dreams."
He gestures toward the heart of the ship. There, beneath a canopy of stars, rests an ancient loom unlike anything you've ever seen. Its frame is carved from pale moonwood. Threads of silver moonlight stretch between crystal spindles, gently humming as though waiting for familiar hands.
"It'll only answer to its Weaver," says the Captain. Around you, the crew smiles. Then Pillow Pete clears his throat dramatically. "Cap'n..." He opens the Sleep Log once more."Tonight's assignment." The crew gathers close.
Pete traces the glowing words with one finger. "One frightened child..." Pete pauses. "Two pinches of stardust...and one scrap of courage..." Pete's eyes shift up to you. ""...and the steady hands of one newly chosen Dream Weaver." The Captain turns with a smile and offers you his hand. "Come aboard, if you've a mind to."
