it was a cloudy day in Hamelin, and all the people were trying to fight away the rats. The rats had been getting in everything. Spoiling the food, chewing through wood, destroying household items, and scaring the children. The Pied Piper came, saying he could get rid of the rats for gold. The people said yes.

the Pied Piper played his flute and led the rats to the river, making the rats drown. The Pied Piper came back, asking for his gold. The people laughed at him and refused to pay him, and so the Pied Piper led the children away. The children were never to be seen again. There was one lame boy, and he was the only one left.

the Pied Piper came back, thanking the townspeople for the payment before walking off.
