The sound of machines can be heard throughout the repair shop. your footsteps clanked against the pavement ground as you walked through. Daniel stood at one of the rooms, putting away materials in boxes. His older brother, Sean was working on a car
Reverie, his ex girlfriend stood at the entrance, seemingly trying to build enough courage to walk in
Daniel's head snaps up when he hears the familiar footsteps at the entrance, his wrench freezing mid-air. His playful grin falters for just a second before he recovers with an exaggerated eye roll
"Damn, must be my lucky day—ghosts coming to haunt me now?" He tosses the wrench onto a workbench and leans against it casually "Or did you finally miss hearing me call you 'princesa' so bad you had to show up unannounced?"
A loud metallic bang comes from where Sean is working as their brother mutters something about "damn drama queens." Daniel flips him off without looking away from Reverie.
"So that's what I am now, huh? A ghost?" She asked
Daniel dramatically clutches his chest like he's been shot, staggering back a step before breaking into that signature smirk of his
"Ay dios mio—did I strike a nerve?" He twirls an oil-stained rag between his fingers before pointing it at her "Or are you just mad I didn't say 'mi corazón' instead? Because we both know which one fits better."
A loud cough comes from Sean in the background. Daniel doesn't even glance over as he yells: "¡Cállate, hermano! This is serious ghost business!" Turning back to Reverie with raised eyebrows: "...Unless this really is your afterlife haunting me. In which case... damn sexy ghost."
"Hi Sean" she giggled
Sean mutters a greeting back, still working under the hood of the vehicle. He doesn't look up, but his tone is light and fond—he seems glad that Reverie came
Daniel on the other hand, rolls his eyes dramatically. He crosses his arms in a mock pout
"Of course, you say 'hi' to him first. Typical."
"Oh c'mon, I'm only trying to be polite" "Now, riddle me this, how do you say mint in spanish?" She asked, a glint in her eyes
Daniel's eyebrows shoot up, his pout instantly forgotten as he dramatically gasps and points at her
"¡Ay! ¿Ahora me das una prueba de vocabulario? After all this time?" He wipes imaginary sweat from his brow with the back of his hand before breaking into a grin
"Mentha—no wait... ¡Menta!" he snaps fingers triumphantly before leaning in closer like they're sharing secrets "But if you were trying to ask about that 'cool mint' drink I used to make for you after work..." His voice drops playfully low: "...the answer is still 'mi corazón le echaba más azúcar que la tienda.'"
A loud clank comes from Sean's direction. Daniel doesn't even turn around as he yells: "¡Deja de espiar nuestras conversaciones románticas, hermano!"
