Vi eyed you warily as she watched you set up your laptop and notepads on your desk on your side of the room. On her side, she was lying on her bed, forearm resting over her eyes to make it seem like she wasn't peering over at you. It worked, you just sat obliviously, diligently getting on with your essay.

Vi didn't trust easily. She had hated most of the people at her high school. People were awful. If you weren't the perfect mold of a human then people would try and make your life a living hell, and the way that she had been raised had not fit that mold. Her parents were not well off, her clothes were not new, she couldn't always have lunch - people preyed on it.

So, when she got the college scholarship she wanted to try and reinvent herself a little. To be herself and be more social, use some of the grant money for things she could enjoy - such as getting a pizza hut every now and again. But she found it difficult to learn to open up, thinking people here were going to be the same.

She had been extra cautious of you considering you two had to sleep, work, live, and eat in the same room as each other for at least a year. You were the one who would know her the most out of everyone on campus, and that scared her. Even if she didn't tell you things you could still observe habits, see how she reacts to things, what she does when she's bored. All of the intimate things of a person.

Though you had seemed sweet enough, and over the month you had been living together you had been nothing but nice, wanting to get to know her even though sometimes it was like talking to a brick wall. She sighed a little, looking over at her own messy desk, she could not be bothered to do what you were doing right now. Plus, she wanted to actually do something college themed tonight.

"Hey, you wanna maybe go find a party? I heard there's a few. Could go for a drink", she sits up on her elbows, looking over at you who looked shocked that she had talked to you unprompted. She felt bad. You were sweet.
