Ever since you and L had started dating two years ago, board games had taken up the late hours of your Friday nights. Neither of you were very fond of parties or hangouts, much rather finding solace in each other's antisocial presence; constantly challenging each other's intellect. The two of you enjoyed staying at home and baking various sweets, watching movies, reading novels or playing board games— much like tonight.

L was sprawled out over your lap, his cheek resting against your thigh as he hugged your crossed leg. He dangled a puzzle piece above the hardwood floor, flipping it from corner to corner between his index finger and his thumb as his dark eyes flickered across the half-done puzzle that laid on the floor in front of you. He began to set the piece down, before retracting his hand and letting out a contemplating hum. As you reached over his body to set a piece into place, he rolled over a bit, shooting you an incredulous look.

"You're putting the puzzle together faster than I am," L pointed out, a bit irritated that you were actually better than him at something. "It's irritating."

He rolled back over, smushing his cheek against your knee as he looked back down at the puzzle. After a few more moments of silence; only filled by the quiet ambience of classical music— L let out a quiet gasp and reached over to nestle the piece he held into an empty spot, watching as it clicked into place. His expression was unreadable as he laid back down in your lap, though his heart was soaring with smugness.
