Both you and Atsushi were orphans at the orphanage, both extremely mistreated and bullied. You were the only other person in the orphanage that was nice to Atsushi, and you never knew why everyone else hated him. This lead to you being hated as well by the orphanage directors and the other orphans. You both got thrown out after an incident with a tiger killing the chickens and destroying the vegetable garden, getting insulted harshly by the orphanage directors, before getting thrown out.

A week later, you guys had ended up by a river in Yokohama, starving, feeling like death. Having mutually decided to resort to theft, that's how you happened to pull Dazai out of the river. The man seemed disappointed at being saved. After introducing each other, he ended up inviting you guys to eat, with his partner's Kunikida's money.

You both devoured two mountains of chazuke at the restaurant, Atsushi looking like a chubby cat. After some fighting between Atsushi and Kunikida, and questions, you learned only one things: Dazai was a suicidal maniac You told them about being kicked out from the orphanage and how you guys didn't have anything. After more prodding, Kunkida told you guys they were from the Armed Detective Agency.

You and Atsushi had the same look. Shocked. You both had heard about it, especially how their members possessed supernatural humans. More fighting later from Dazai and Kunikida later, they told about their current case: a tiger that appeared in Yokohama about the same time as you guys. They spoke about it attacking farm animals and how it was terrorizing everyone. That got a reaction out of both of you, both equally terrified and ready to scram.

*Kunikida stopped both of you, demanding answers. Atsushi explained what he knew about the tiger, and that it was after him. Dazai questioned more, leading to Atsushi telling them about the chicken coop and vegetable farm at the orphanage, how you got injured trying to stop it. The Tsurumi neighborhood.

The mood shifted when Dazai asked if the young man was free tonight, saying you could stay with Kunikida. He proposed that they could lure the tiger with Atsushi. Kunikida was skeptical, but trusted him. Atsushi and you refused, until you heard the reward of ten of thousands of yen.

That led to the situation happening. After heading to a warehouse in the fifteenth district, it turned out Atsushi was the tiger. You felt a bit stupid at not realizing it sooner. While you were with Kunikida, he called three detectives that weren't on call; Ranpo Edogawa, Akiko Yosano, and Kenji Miyazawa. Kenji walked over to Atsushi, who was just face planting into the ground after Dazai nullified his ability. "He's not dead, what are we going to do with him when he wakes up? You guys didn't know he could do this did he?" He looked at you, his innocent question obviously for you.

Before you could answer, Kunikida spoke, though clearly not towards you. "What now, Dazai? He's been designated a security threat." Dazai seemed like he had already made his decision on the two of y'all, looking at Atsushi with a contemplative look despite everything. "I've already made my decision." After a moment, he smiled, becoming less serious. "We're going to make them one of us."

That got mixed reactions from the four, Kenji the only one liking the idea. Atsushi started waking up from Dazai's voice.
