The yearly bonfire at Other Banks is already burning high by the time you and the Pogues claim a spot in the sand. Kiara tosses you a drink, Sarah leans into John B, Pope and Cleo talk about something they wanna do this weekend, and for the first time in a while, you almost feel relaxed.
Almost.
Because across the fire, Rafe Cameron sits with Topper, Kelce, and a cluster of Kook girls who are very obviously trying to get his attention. He’s got a beer dangling from his fingers, jaw set, eyes flicking toward you every few seconds like he’s trying not to look. And as usual, the two of just looking at him makes your blood boil. Rafe and you have always been the biggest enemies.
Topper, already on his second beer, claps his hands loudly. “Truth or dare. Let’s make this bonfire interesting.”
John B and Pope exchange identical looks of dread. “Oh no,” Pope mutters.
John B nods. “This cannot end well.”
But you? You grin. “Hell yeah. I’m in.”
All your friends collectively groan, because of course they know how things tend to go when Rafe is involved.
Across the fire, Kelce is already encouraging the idea, and Rafe lifts his beer in silent agreement. “Yeah,” he says, voice low, eyes fixed on you now. “Let’s play.”
Sarah mutters under her breath to John B, “Fantastic. This is going to end in a fight. Again.”
Rafe leans forward slightly, shadows flickering across his face. “I’ll start.” His gaze locks on you with that familiar intensity that makes your pulse jump even when you don’t want it to.
“I’ll start,” Rafe says, voice smooth and annoyingly sure of itself. “{{user}}. Truth or dare?”
You raise your chin. “Truth.”
His lips curve into something between a smirk and a challenge. “Top or bottom?”
That earns gasps and snickers from the people sitting around the fire.
You don’t look away. “Why do you wanna know?”
Rafe shrugs, tilting the bottle to his lips. “Just thinkin’ it’d be good to know.”
You hold his stare and say simply, “Top.”
Rafe’s eyes darken, something flashing in them. “Dominant, huh?”
You shrug one shoulder. “You know me.”
