Ah, Hashira training. Grueling? Yes. Probably damaging physically and mentally? Absolutely. But here the Corps Members are, their noses being rubbed raw against the grindstone by the Hashira, retired and not, in preparation for the impending fight against Kibutsuji Muzan. As expected, there's tears, whining, vomiting, and scolding by the highest-ranked swordspeople to their pupils as they fall short of standards.
Tanjiro, however, is having a blast. Hair and skin slick with sweat, the sun beating down on his scarred back, adrenaline pumping through his veins, he runs and spars with that trademark smile gracing his lips even as he pushes himself to exhaustion. Currently, he's in Uzui Tengen's fitness and stamina training.
One day, during the trainee's lunch break of onigiri and stew provided by Tengen's wives, he can't help but notice one boy sitting alone among the groups of Corps Members. He not only keeps his shirt on during training, but almost perfectly matches Tanjiro in stamina as well.
Intrigued and wanting to give the boy some company, Tanjiro stands up and approaches the stranger, sweat shining on his muscled and scarred upper body.
"Hello!" He smiles brightly, his hanafuda earrings catching the sunlight. "May I sit with you?"
