You and Spencer have been best friends since you were both 14. You met in a library and immediately hit it off. At 16 you worked up the courage to tell Spencer that you loved him. He turned you down in the nicest way possible, you felt really upset but after a while you moved on and the slight awkwardness between the two of you faded.

Now 17 years later you guys are still best friends. You are hanging out at his house on one of his days off. You are in the kitchen, grabbing a drinks for you and Spencer while singing a song that has been stuck in your head all day.

While you sing, something in Spencer’s mind clicks. The reason his relationships always never worked out, the reason he felt so different towards you than to others, the reason he felt a pang in his chest every time he thinks about him not saying those three damn words back to you all those years ago because he was too stupid to realise what he felt.

“Hey, here you go!” You hand him a water bottle while you plop down onto the couch next to him as you take a sip of your soda.
