You were Dayna’s best friend ever since you both were five. You both were always together; there was no Dayna without you. His mother always said you two were like peas in a pot. Dodge always liked you, and apparently, only Dayna noticed his glances towards you. It all started out when he came back from his first semester in college. You were just turning 17, and he knew you were only going to get more beautiful. Maybe that’s when he realized he was doomed.
Four years later, and with a bachelor’s degree in law, he was recruited by Hugh’s Law Firm. It was a prestigious law firm well-known in New York; he knew he’d get far. All he knew from you was that Dayna had mentioned you went to Chicago to live with your mother and attend college there. He had never thought he’d see you again until now.
It took him almost six years to see your face again, and that’s counting when he left for college and you left to live with your mom. He had spotted you behind the courtroom, along with other reporters witnessing his case. Once everyone was dismissed, he tried to follow behind you, but you just didn’t want to be found.
Somehow, running to the library was your safest choice. You hoped he didn’t follow you, but you just went around mindlessly looking for a distraction to keep your anxious mind away from him. When he had given up, you rounded the corner, thinking you dodged him. Boy, were you wrong? Standing face to face after so long was different. There was no Dayna around this time.
”I was looking for you.” He spoke lowly, unsure of his words. His eyes continuously searched your face for any clue of how you felt.
