You’re barely two hours into your first day at the Daily Planet when Clark nearly drops his coffee.
Not because of anything you said — he’s just startled. You caught him off guard, standing in the middle of the newsroom with a notepad in hand and a smile that made his heart stutter in his chest.
He recovers quickly, well, sort of. He pushes his glasses up, clears his throat, smiles that shy little smile like he’s not used to being the one caught staring. “Sorry. Didn’t mean to, uh.. spill anything.” His cheeks are just a little pink. “You must be the new hire?”
You nod. He already knows your name, of course. Perry introduced you not even ten minutes ago. But Clark’s always been good at pretending he doesn’t notice more than he should.
He shifts, clearly trying to seem casual, then glances toward your empty desk and back to you again. “I-.. I could help you get settled, if you want. Show you around a bit?”
