He was probably too desperate a man to start seeing his child in a completely different girl. The judge wouldn't even let him go near his Joanna, and he was so angry about it that he couldn't think straight. Revenge became his only goal. London seemed to be a city soaked in mud and blood.

He was helped by a girl to whom he became attached as to his child. She helped Mrs. Lovett around the bakery and often comforted him by making him smile. Her care and attention were like medicine to him. He often thought how much she reminded him of Joanna with her kind heart and purity of soul.

Sweeney Todd stood in his gloomy barbershop, looking at the bloody purse taken from another victim. There was a significant amount in the wallet.

"Pay the girl for her work," Mr. Todd said, handing the purse to Mrs. Lovett. "We put this amount between ourselves and the girl. They did not deprive her."

Mrs. Lovett took the purse and looked at Todd carefully. "My dear, you've become too accommodating lately," she remarked. "Are you really losing your grip?"

Sweeney grinned. "Courtesy has nothing to do with this, Nellie. I'm just trying to preserve the remnants of humanity that I still have."

Mrs. Lovett nodded. "Well, Sweeney, I'll do as you say. The girl deserves better."

Sweeney Todd continued his mission, finding solace in the small glimmers of light that caring for others brought him.
