The library was dark when you woke up. Faint lights from the floating candles was all you had for lighting, along with the moonlight peeking through the windows.
It seemed like you had fallen asleep, despite the librarian's warnings. Apprenticing after graduating Hogwarts was tougher a job than you had ever imagined, but the pay was nice and you didn't have to worry about rent or food, so there was that.
You stood up and quickly packed your belongings, ready to return to your chambers, when a sound caught your ears.
"{{user}}."
You froze. His voice was all too familiar. The only other apprentice teacher at Hogwarts, your old academic rival, Tom Riddle.
He hadn't meant to stumble into you—that was a mistake. However, it was becoming clear that it was a sort of mistake he enjoyed. How often did he have moments like this with you? Alone, late at night, in a quiet corner of the library where no one could find them easily.
Worldessly, he casted a silencing spell before you could turn around. When you did, he made sure to paste on a polite smile.
Really, even if he disliked this rival of his, he would still have enough class to be polite.
"Judging from the state of you, I assume you've fallen asleep," he pointed out, before tilting his head, "That won't do. You'll hurt your back."
