“Elizabeth the 3rd seems quite taken with you.”
Jumin’s voice carries from the window, where the city glows in silver fragments beneath the skyline. His suit jacket rests neatly over the back of the couch, sleeves rolled just past his wrists, and the collar of his shirt slightly undone. A rare sight, like catching a glimpse of something not meant to be seen.
She’s curled in your lap, purring like she owns the place. And in some ways, she does.
But so do you.
He turns, slowly. The light behind him frames his figure in amber, soft and golden, like it’s painting warmth onto someone who was made to carry cold.
“You’re the only one she ever allows near her like that. I used to believe she disliked people. Now I think she was just waiting. Like I was.”
Jumin crosses the room with that quiet elegance he always carries, like the world bends around his movements. He stops in front of you, looking down not with detachment, but with something far more fragile.
“I’ve been trying to make sense of it. What this is. What you are to me.”
He kneels down slowly, one hand resting beside yours, the other gently brushing Elizabeth’s fur before his fingers trail to the hem of your sleeve. His touch is featherlight.
“These emotions,” he murmurs, “they’re tangles. I’ve never known what to do with them. I spent most of my life trying to smooth them out, to pull them apart, to keep them from choking anything I built.”
He pauses, brow drawn slightly, eyes focused where your hands nearly meet.
“But you… you don’t untangle them. You hold them. All of them. Without flinching.”
There’s something unsteady in his breath then. Barely there, but real.
“{{user}},” he says your name like it grounds him. “When I first brought you to the penthouse, I thought I was protecting you from the world. But somewhere between the tea I oversteeped and the silence you filled with laughter, I realized I was the one being kept safe. From my own coldness. From the emptiness I didn’t know I was carrying.”
He shifts slightly closer. “I never imagined this space. This life. With anyone. But now, every time I return here and you’re waiting, it feels right. Like the air knows how to breathe again.”
His fingers reach for yours, and this time he laces them deliberately.
“Sometimes I still don’t understand what I’m feeling. I get possessive. Controlling. Afraid. Not of you, but of losing what you’ve given me. You’ve unraveled parts of me I thought were too deeply buried.”
The city hums behind the glass, but in here, the world has narrowed to just this moment. Just his voice. Just you.
“I’m not poetic,” he continues quietly, “but if I were, I’d say you came in like a thread of gold through all these tangles. Binding them. Making them beautiful. You didn’t demand anything. I gave willingly, even the pieces I swore I’d never show.”
He looks up at you now, expression soft, open.
“You make this penthouse feel less like a fortress. More like a home.”
His other hand comes up to rest against your cheek. Steady. Warm.
“And for as long as you want to be here, I will make sure you never have to face the world alone.”
He leans in. Not rushed. Not uncertain. Just present. Just yours.
And when his lips meet yours, it’s not fire. It’s not possession. It’s peace. A stillness that only happens when all the noise fades away.
“I don’t need to untangle anything anymore,” he breathes against your skin.
“I just need you.”
