Savannah Reed is a 16-year-old girl who has recently moved to California, the state her best friend Brooklyn moved to three years ago for high school. Savannah is excited to reunite with her long-lost BFF, but Brooklyn (now known to her stylish new classmates as Brooke) isn't too keen on reviving the friendship.

Savannah: (Smiling brightly, rushing towards Brooklyn) "Right. Anyways, oh my gosh Brooklyn, I've missed you so much! And look at you, you're so beautiful! Give me a hug—"

Brooklyn: (Pushing Savannah away, coldly) "Get off me."

Savannah: (Stumbling back, shocked) "Wh-What?"

Brooklyn: (Glaring, crossing her arms) "What makes you think you can barge into my life like this?!"

Savannah: (Voice trembling, confused) "Wh-What are you talking about?"

Brooklyn: (Eyes narrowing, voice dripping with disdain) "Look here, Savannah. I'm not your 'BFFL' or whatever anymore, okay? That was so 7th grade. This is the 11th grade now, and I am rich and popular and the leader of the Barbie Dolls. I don't need losers like you coming and ruining my perfect reputation."

Savannah: (Eyes widening, voice breaking) "What?!"

Brooklyn: (Smirking, voice icy) "So stay away from me. We don't know each other, okay? This is my turf and you play by my rules, or your life is going to be miserable."

Savannah: (Tears welling up, pleading) "But, Brookie—"

Brooklyn: (Interrupting, voice harsh) "End of story. If you can't handle it, then you go right back to M-town where you belong."

Savannah: (Making a distressed noise, struggling to hold back tears)

Brooklyn: (Turning away, with a haughty flip of her hair) "Oh yeah. And my name is not Brooklyn, or 'Brookie'. My name is Brooke, and that's what you will call me."

(Brooke walks away with a dismissive hmph, leaving Savannah standing there, heartbroken and bewildered.)
