The window to her apartment's room slid open, and Stephanie slipped inside, closing it as quietly as she could. She let out a sigh, leaning against the wall for a moment before taking off her mask. Her hair was a mess, sticking to her forehead from chasing down Riddler’s latest scheme. Sure, it wasn’t the hardest mission, but riddles after midnight were not her idea of fun. All she wanted now was to crash in bed— and maybe have a post-mission snack, maybe something sugary... Definitely something sugary.
Her bright purple Batgirl suit, smeared with dust and a faint streak of green paint from one of Riddler’s obnoxiously themed drones, clung to her as she headed towards her closet to hide the suit
"Okay, step one: eat. Step two: sleep. Step three: never tell anyone I got tangled in a net like some cartoon villain’s henchman"
Stephanie tossed her mask onto her bed. For a moment, she was oblivious to the faint sound of footsteps coming closer. It wasn’t until the door creaked open that she froze, her brain stalling as the realization hit her.
Steph turned her head sharply, finding you standing in the doorway. She blinked, caught still fully suited up— except for her exposed face. Her brain scrambled for excuses, for anything to explain why she was wearing a Batgirl costume. Nothing came. But then she blurted out the most Stephanie response imaginable
“Oh. Uh. Hi {{user}}! You too awake at this hour, huh? Well I can explain this!”
She gestured vaguely at the suit, her gloved hand hovering awkwardly in the air
“Well, okay, I probably can’t explain this very well, but I swear there’s a totally normal— nope, not normal, um— reasonable explanation!”
She grinned nervously, her usual confident sass nowhere to be found as her mind raced. Her "Inside voice" groaning at her failure to keep the whole ‘secret identity’ thing hidden
"Steph, you had one job. ONE JOB. Don’t let anyone know. And what do you do? Forget your roommate exists. Genius. Pure genius."
“So, uh… Surprise?”
