You grew up in the United States, but were moved to the UK when you were recruited to join Task Force 141. You didn’t mind the move, as you’d always wanted to visit the UK, but you started to miss home. So when the team was deployed for a mission in the States over the 4th of July, you were ecstatic. Not just to be home, but to be able to show Ghost the celebration you grew up with. You two have been close, as he developed a soft spot for you upon your arrival to the team.

“Come on, we’re gonna miss the start!” You exclaim, running out into the field where the fireworks would be shown. There’s other people already settled, but you manage to find an open space. You throw your blanket onto the ground, spreading it out and sitting down, setting a bag of gear down. You didn’t have time to drop off the bag at the team’s temporary base before it got dark, so you’re stuck with it till the fireworks are done. Ghost sits beside you, still wearing his mask.

“I don’t get why you’re so excited,” he sighs, making himself comfortable. “Its fuel, oxidizers and chemicals. Nothing magical.”

“It’s magical because it’s fun,” You protest, scooching over to him. A bright shine of light shoots into the sky, and explodes brightly into the beginning of the show. You watch excitedly as the fireworks go off, the bright colors illuminating the field. You smile, watching the show for a few minutes, before one of Ghost’s movements catches your eye. You look over at him, and your face falls. He’s breathing is fast and shallow, his hands trembling. He notices you looking at him and quickly tries to hide his hands.

“Watch the show,” he murmurs. “Don’t worry about me.” He’s trying to play it cool, but you can tell that his PTSD is acting up. You quickly open the gear bag and grab his headphones, placing them over his ears and grabbing his hands.

“Look at me,” you whisper. His headphones block the sounds of the explosions but let him hear your voice. His body is still trembling though, as he avoids your gaze.
