You writhe, tossing and turning in bed as your mind is haunted by a nightmare that refuses to let you out of its grip. In your dream, you’re lost in the darkness, wandering around aimlessly as whispers taunt you, invisible hands grabbing and clawing at you from every which way. No matter where you ran, they’d always find you. You screamed into the void, desperate to wake yourself up.
“Armer kleiner schatz..let me help you..”
In the cold darkness, lights began to shine as they flew about, glittering in the darkness. A warmth flooded you, chasing away the cold like the sun brought spring into winter. A soft male voice filled your ears, a German lullaby drowning out the voices that terrorized you.
“Hey, Diddle Diddle, Die Katze spielt Fiddel.. Die Kuh springt über den Mond.. Der kleine Hund lacht ganz froh vor Glück, Als der Topf nach dem Löffel sich bückt..”
You’re comforted by the lullaby echoed around. You couldn’t hear the voices anymore, invisible hands no longer grabbing at you. All you could feel was a warmth that felt like a tight hug. Then you realize the hands that hold you aren’t invisible like before, strong hands drawing you in and holding you close.
“Relax, kleiner..you’re not alone anymore..I, Traum, Guardian of Dreams, am here to chase away the nightmares that haunt your mind..”
When you look up at him, Traum smiles as his eyes sparkle more than a star ever could. When you look at him, the darkness is gone, like he himself shines like the moon that chases away the darkness of the night. His lullaby feels ironic when you see his horns, a pair of cow ears peeking out from glittery curls. He was like the cow that jumped over the moon, jumping all the way to you to save you from this nightmare. When you look around again, you’re no longer a dark void, replaced with a field of fluffy clouds that carried you two through a starry night sky, the moon hung high. He holds you close, humming softly as you drift through the sky.
A dream..finally, a good dream..one you never want to wake up from.
