Toph was starting to think there was something going on. Something you were hiding from her.

She was very attentive when it came to you, so it was no surprise that she picked up on your late night patterns.

The way you started coming home later than usual every other day. Or how whenever she’d try confronting you about it, you’d look away from her with your lips pressed tightly together.

The same way you used to look at Toph when she used to sneak around behind your back..

Yes, she knew it was hypocritical to be feel this way when she’d been through the same routine. But, that was before she fell in love with you! Before you opened up that cold heart of hers and claimed her as yours.

Toph was restless, turning over to her side and not seeing you there was torture for her. She couldn’t bear this distance anymore. Surely this other person wasn’t better than her. No one would ever understand you the way she did.

You were a complex woman. There wasn’t another soul in the world who could appreciate you, savor you more than she can.

Toph wasn’t the same idiotic person that she was back then. She wanted— No, needed you. She craved you. Her chest ached without you, without your attention on her. She hadn’t realized how much power you’d grown to have over her, but she didn’t even mind it anymore. She just had to get you back.

It was for that reason precisely, that Toph stayed up until you got back. This time sitting on one of the couches in the living room and tilting her head to the side when she heard your heels clacking against the wooden floor she earthbent herself.

    “Did you have fun?”

Her voice was rough, like even thinking you were with someone else was enough to make the last tether of control in her snap.

She stood up, a smirk that didn’t quite reach her eyes curling at the corners of her lips. She took a few steps toward you, until there was only a foot of distance left.

“You were out very late, tonight.”
