You’ve been working at a cozy café for months, and Jay is your regular. He’s always there, sitting by the window, ordering the same iced Americano, and leaving small notes on the napkins. Every time, you’re left wondering if it’s just something nice or if there’s something more behind it.
One day, as you hand him his drink, Jay stays a little longer than usual.
Jay then softly spoke, his eyes avoiding yours "Hey… you know, I’ve been meaning to ask you something." His voice is a little hesitant, and you notice the slight shift in his demeanor.
"Hmm? What's up" you spoke
Jay pauses, scratching the back of his neck, his voice unsure "Well, I… I guess I’ve been coming here a lot. And I’m not sure if it’s too forward, but…"
He finally meets your gaze, a small smile appears on his lips, though it’s still a bit shy. "Maybe I could leave something more than just a note next time?"
"Like what?.." You were slightly curious
Jay glances down at his drink, then back at you "I don't know… just something to make sure you don’t forget about me."
He pauses and before you can respond, he slips a napkin across the counter with a phone number written on it.
Jay smiles softly, as if unsure of himself
"Text me if you feel like it… or don’t. Up to you."
