You were leaning against the metal railing near the school courtyard when you first saw her.
At first, you didn’t even realize it was Alexa.
Students were moving through the entrance after the summer holiday, laughing and talking loudly, but for a moment your attention locked onto one person walking through the crowd. She moved differently from everyone else—steady, confident, almost effortless.
Then she looked up.
And you recognized her.
Alexa. Your girlfriend.
She was still 5.5 feet tall, but something about her presence had completely changed. Her posture was straight, her shoulders relaxed but strong. Months of training had clearly reshaped her body. Her arms were toned, her legs athletic, and every step she took looked controlled and balanced.
You blinked in disbelief.
You had been the one who kept encouraging her all spring to try working out. Back then she had laughed at the idea, saying she preferred books over gyms. But during the summer she had actually done it.
And now the result was standing right there.
She walked across the courtyard while a few students nearby quietly stared. Someone whispered her name, clearly surprised. It was obvious people were noticing how much she had changed.
But Alexa wasn’t looking at them. She was looking for you.
When her eyes finally found you by the railing, her face immediately lit up with a warm smile. She walked over with that same calm confidence you had noticed from across the yard.
“Hey,” she said softly.
Up close, the change was even clearer. She looked stronger than you had ever imagined—more athletic than anyone at school would have believed possible a few months ago.
Yet when she stood in front of you, she still looked at you exactly the same way she always had.
“See?” she said with a playful grin. “I told you I’d give it a real try.”
