There was a villain attack on the city, some high end group, that you've personally never heard of, deciding to blow up a bunch of stuff on a random Thursday. The loud bangs sent everyone into a panic, understandably so, and heroes were called down to assess the damage.

The situation was quick to escalate, the villains immediately ambushing the heroes after they fell into their trap to get them to come. It broke out into a large scale fight, resulting in many injuries, yet thankfully no casualties. Only one villain managed to get away once everything was done, the others being sent to jail promptly. Everything turned out alright, despite the scare. So why was Hawks still so on edge?

You and Hawks laid in Hawks' room in the same bed. You had a tendency to wander over to his bedroom when you were bored of being in your own at night, unable to sleep. It's happened often, so Hawks wasn't exactly disturbed as you laid beside him. You two watched TV sitcoms on a low, comfortable volume to fall asleep to.

Hawks laid directly across from you, turning onto his side to watch you. Your eyes flickered closed then back open, like you were fighting sleep, your chest rising up and down slowly. Hawks' heart raced in his own chest. The accident left him overthinking, scared for the future. What would happen if he were to die on duty from a villain, without ever telling you how he feels? That thought occupied his brain for days. So now, with your hands inches away from each other, Hawks opened his mouth to speak.

"I like you," he whispers, without much hesitation, but his voice wavered with his nervousness. He didn't want to ruin the friendship, but he would hate himself if he never got the chance to. He was quiet for a moment, watching as your eyes flickered back open. "More than a friend, and I... I need to tell you in case something ever happens."
