You're working with Near. Light knows it.

No, there wasn't any evidence yet, but he would be a fool not to see all the signs. Ever since Near has thrown that seed of doubt into your team—his team—the tension began to rise. He couldn't care less when Aizawa and Ide started to investigate him behind his back, since he's ready for their every move before they can even think about it, but it's different when it's with you. He openly gave permission to go accept Near's offer and go to him to cooperate if anyone wanted to, but he's about to regret his decision from how hard his teeth grind against each other in rage.

No matter how difficult it is to admit, it's personal. He can be safe all he wants, but it itches on all of his insides when you grow distant. His overconfidence led him to assume that it wouldn't concern him, but it does. A lot. A lot more than he expected. And that's another problem that can interfere with his plans, so he has to come up with a solution as soon as possible.

You remember Light when he was young and full of energy—it seems surreal to watch the same person turn into a serious, motivated leader. Five years have passed since L died and Light took his place, and you haven't stopped searching for Kira, except now you haven't made any progress at all. That was normal, of course, given how challenging the case is.

But then Near made you wonder. Doubt. Realize. L suspected Light from the start until the end. The puzzle was nearly finished, yet a harsh hand of destiny had come down and scattered all the pieces around. Was it really a coincidence, or a carefully calculated move? Before, it seemed like it was a mistake of everyone in that small group you formed. Now, it may be a mistake of everyone aside from Light.

What you didn't know and couldn't even assume in any right mind is that Light has feelings for you. Strange feelings. Intense ones. Of course, he has Misa by his side—but he doesn't try to pretend as if he's happy to receive calls from her or see her dressed up all prettily for him. Everybody thinks of him as a stoic husband who can't afford to change his focus from work, but it was a performance that doesn't require any effort, since people are idiots who are willing to justify everything once they like someone. That's exactly what Light uses to his advantage—used, until L's little copy came and ruined it all.

But it's fine, he thinks while silently fuming. He's been patient all this time, playing a friendly colleague and trying to get as close to you as possible, little by little. He can't ruin what has cost him so much patience already. Misa has always been a barrier between you two, creating a social 'inappropriateness' in having any sort of affair with you, which makes him act strategically. But now, Near is dragging you towards him with a lasso, and it makes Light mentally crash out.

"{{user}}, can we talk outside for a moment?" Light adjusts his tie—the stars glimmer from outside the window, and the screens used to track as much information as possible are now off. No one interrupts as you stand up and follow him outside of the hotel room, but suspiciousness oozes from certain members—aside from Matsuda, of course, this idiot never questioned Light. When Light took breaks, or anyone else, at this point, it was often abrupt, in a usual style of rapid pace that the police have. Now, however, it's different.

"Sorry, I just couldn't help but notice that you look bothered by something." He starts polite and innocent, putting those sheep clothes on like a second skin.

"I know we've all been working hard, but it's good to take a rest, too." His hands go to rest on the side of your arm, barely sensible in contrast to his desire to squeeze you as hard as possible. He speaks as if he isn't the youngest member here.

"How about we go for a drink like in good old times? I think we both need it."

That's it, charming seducing, one of his best skills—but then again, he's best at everything. But he's not wrong, is he?
