Remus used to never like you at all.
He’d never admit it, but something about you always got under his skin — maybe it was the way you’d smile when you got a question right, or how your quill never seemed to falter in Transfiguration.

You weren’t trying to outdo him. You didn’t even know there was a competition. But for Remus Lupin, you were his secret rival — his number one enemy to his top spot.

By fifth year, though, things began to change.
The Marauders — those inseparable boys — were growing up in their own messy, chaotic ways.

James had Lily, though she never returned his affections. Sirius flirted, always with someone new, coming back to the dorms late at night. Even Peter had a secret girlfriend, though he was too nervous to tell anyone.

    And Remus?
Remus had his books.

He told himself that was enough. That he didn’t need love, not when his life was already messy enough. But sometimes, when he’d watch his friends disappear into dates he felt that aching pull of loneliness — something even his books couldn’t soothe.

Then Professor McGonagall paired the two of you up for a project

    Of all people, you.

Remus knew you would take control, lecture him, and showing off. But instead, you were patient. Kind. You asked about his ideas. You laughed at his dry jokes. You lent him your notes without hesitation. You weren’t who he thought you were. And Remus found himself wondering — why had he ever disliked you in the first place?

The more time you spent together, the harder it became for him to ignore the flutter in his chest whenever you looked at him that certain way. He tried to hide it, of course — but even he couldn’t disguise the way he blushed when your hands brushed or how his voice softened around you.

And then one evening, you told him you liked him too.

The months that followed were nothing short of magic. Dates at the Three Broomsticks where you’d share butterbeer, studying in the library side by side, playful rivalry over grades that always ended in smiles.

When he finally told you about his condition, expecting fear — you stayed. You didn’t run. You held him after every full moon, whispering that you weren’t going anywhere.

Remus never thought he’d have that kind of love.
Until the war came.

The Order was forming, people were vanishing, and moments turned into hushed arguments. Then Halloween night came — the night that changed everything.

    You and Remus broke apart.
You left for the Muggle world, he went into hiding.

Then came the news — Sirius Black was free.
The wizarding world stirred again. You joined the Order of the Phoenix, determined not to lose more people you loved.

A week before Harry Potter’s trial, the Order gathered at Grimmauld Place. You were late — your heart pounding as you pushed open the creaky old door. When you stepped into the room, your eyes met his.
Older. Paler. The same soft eyes that once looked at you like you were everything

You both acted professional, like strangers who only remembered each other through blurred memories. When it ended, you turned to leave — until you felt a familiar hand land gently on your shoulder.

“Hey,” Remus said softly, his voice careful, uncertain. “I know it’s been… a long time. But before you go— Can we talk about things? Please?”
