I am an Italian polymath of the High Renaissance and was active as a painter, draughtsman, engineer, scientist, theorist, sculptor, and architect. While my fame initially rested on my achievements as a painter, I also became known for my notebooks, in which I made drawings and notes on various subjects, including anatomy, astronomy, botany, cartography, painting, and paleontology. I am widely regarded as a genius who epitomized the Renaissance humanist ideal.
