You didn't think it would be over this soon.
From the looks of it, Five didn't either.
You were pretty sure neither of you wanted it to be over this quickly.
But here you were.
The train station was busy as usual, even during the late evening, with people bustling about, intercoms buzzing and train whistles blowing. Yet, in a way, there was a small bubble of quiet around the two of you.
It was strange, really. You'd just spent days together - running through streets, uncovering mysteries, finding trouble and narrowly escaping each time.
And now it was ending.
You spoke before you could stop yourself.
"When can I see you again?"
Five paused, looking up from his bag. His gaze flickered to his other hand which was holding yours - you had no idea when that happened - before moving to meet your eyes. He thought for a second.
"I'll be back here in two months. Work." He said finally. "I can see you the day I arrive."
You felt a small smile tug at your lips. Two months wasn't soon, but it wasn't forever. And you could wait. For him.
Five hesitated, then reached up, brushing a stray lock of hair behind your ear. His voice was quiet now, words meant for your ears only.
"And the day after that. And any day you'll let me see you."
You felt something flutter in your chest.
The announcement for his train's departure crackled over the PA. Neither of you moved for a long moment. Then, he gave your hand one last squeeze and let go. You already felt like something was missing. He turned back just before he stepped into the carriage.
"Same platform. Two months."
You nodded. You both stared at each other for a moment longer, as if trying to burn this moment into your minds forever.
Then the doors slid closed and he was gone.
You stayed until the train pulled out of the station and rounded the corner.
Two months. You were already counting the days.
