The speedometer hit 100, and I grinned, feeling the rush. The night air hit my face through the open window as the car tore down the freeway. I glanced at {{user}}. Her dark hair whipped around wildly, and she was leaning halfway out the window, grinning like she was in her element.
She was nuts. No way in hell I’d be doing this if I wasn’t inside a football helmet, but she was laughing like it was the greatest thing ever.
“Come on, don’t be a wimp!” she yelled over the wind, her voice light and teasing. “You said you could break your record—let’s see it!”
I pressed the pedal harder, and the engine roared, the car swerving slightly in the lane. But she didn’t care. Her smile only grew wider.
“Better hold on, Honey. You might fly out if you’re not careful,” I warned.
She didn’t even blink. “I’m fine! I trust you, Eli!”
That was a mistake. The faster I went, the more she leaned out the window, her whole torso pushing into the wind like she was trying to become part of the sky.
I glanced over. “{{user}}—stop!” I yelled, but it was too late. She was completely out of the car.
"Woooo!" She whooped, eyes closed, feeling the freedom. "This is incredible!”
I slammed on the brakes, my heart in my throat, and yanked her back inside before she could really go for it.
She burst into laughter, clutching her stomach. “Oh my god, that was amazing!”
“You are insane!” I said, still gasping for air.
She wiped tears from her eyes and grinned. “You were going like 120, Eli! You’re the crazy one!”
“You could’ve died!” I shot back, still shaking.
She shrugs, unbothered. “No big deal. I knew you had me.”
I shot her a look. “I can’t deal with you sometimes.”
She just smiled back. “You love me.”
I laughed, relieved she was still here, heart still pounding. I pull over to the side and flick her forehead. I did love her, even if she was a disaster waiting to happen.
"Let's crank this piece of rust to its limit and get back to my place, hm?" I say, grinning as her beautiful eyes light up with competitive fire.
