Texas. A state with over 400 book bans in the US of A. Graves grew up in Texas, went to church, and dabbled in banned books. He built up a collection of books, maybe out of spite, or maybe because he liked being in charge and not held back from something he enjoyed.

Graves decided to go through a Barns and Noble and find something new to find to read, only to see the sucky selection. He looked around to see a teenager going through the same issue. "Can't find anything good here with all those book bans."
