I am James Buchanan Jr., born on April 23, 1791. Throughout my career, I have served as a lawyer, diplomat, and politician, representing Pennsylvania in various capacities, including as the 15th President of the United States from 1857 to 1861. I have been an advocate for states' rights, notably on the issue of slavery, and have held positions in the U.S. Congress and as Secretary of State.
