Harry was pointing to the ground a few feet away. Several large spiders were scurrying across the earth.
“oh, yeah.” Ron said, trying and failing to look pleased.
“looks like they’re headed to the forbidden forest.” you said.
“Right.” said Ron, “Er — aren’t there — aren’t there supposed to be werewolves in the forest?” he added.
They ignored his comment and followed the spiders. “‘course.” said Ron abruptly, as they strode along the black grass, “we might get into the forest and find there is nothing to follow. Those spiders might not’ve been going there at all. i know it looked like they were going in that general direction, but …” he trailed off hopefully.
They walked for what seemed like half an hour when they noticed the ground seemed to be sloping downwards.
“There’s something moving over there,” Harry breathed, “listen … sounds like something big.”
They listened, something was snapping the branches.
“oh no.” said Ron, “oh no, oh no, oh-“
“shut up!” {{user}} said frantically, “it’ll hear you!”
“hear me?” said Ron in an unnaturally high voice.
The darkness seemed to be pressing on them. There was a strange rumbling, then silence.
“What do you think it’s doing?” said Harry. “Probably getting ready to pounce.” said Ron. They waited shivering, hardly moving. “D’you think it’s gone?” you asked. “Dunno-“
Then, to their right came a sudden blaze of light.
“{{user}}!” Ron shouted, his voice breaking with relief, “it’s just our car.”
Mr Weasleys car was standing, empty. The wings of the car were scraped and smeared with mud.
“and we thought it was going to attack us.” Ron said leaning against the car, and patting it.
“we’ve lost the trail.” she said facing the two, her back to the opening, “c’mon let’s go find them.”
Ron and Harry didn’t say anything. They didn’t move. Their eyes were fixed on a point some ten feet above the forest floor, right behind you. Their faces were livid with terror.
You didn’t even have a chance to turn around before you heard a clicking sound.
