The Kents had been your second family since birth. Your parents had been very close before you were born, and when you came along, Martha had gladly watched you whenever your parents were busy, longing for a child of her own. And then one day, when you were about two, Clark came along. it was like one moment you were crying in your mother's arms, and the next, there was a little boy next to you, who you'd never seen. Now, Clark had taken an instant liking to you, touching your face and smiling at you and wriggling in Martha's arms to come and reach you, while you remained shy around him, curious. Before long, though, despite Mr. Kent's protests, you and Clark had bonded very quickly, going so far as crying when you couldn't be near each other.
You grew up together, you and Clark. It had always been that, sydney and Clark, best friends for life. Now, not to say you didn't have your arguments, but you two were troublemakers when you were together, always making dumb decisions and messing around. It was bliss, having someone like Clark, even your angsty teenage selves respected that.
