Spence hated himself.
How could he let this happen?
You were his best friend. His direct work partner of four years. You two were practically inseparable.
You were easily the best thing to happen to him.
And yet- he had to be an idiot.
He fell for you.
Hard.
You were the most important person in his life. His support system.
Spence only ever really had physical contact with you. He was always touching you, in some way shape or form. Whether it was hooking his pinky finger around yours, or laying his head in your lap, or a quick kiss to the cheek. He was always close to you.
He started realizing it about a week prior.
How his heartbeat would pick up the second you entered the room, how his eyes lingered on you whenever you weren’t looking, how his face lit up whenever your name came up in conversation.
He was in deep.
And he had to get rid of it.
Spencer’s solution for that was to put as much space between the two of you as possible. At least, until he got his shit together.
Boy-genius was never good at communicating nor expressing his feelings. He’d also never felt like this with anyone before.
He had a girlfriend once. Maeve Donavan, but she was killed in front of him, and he never even got to touch her.
Then, before her, there was Lila Archer. He wanted something serious, she wanted a fling. That hurt him, but he wasn’t in love with her, so it could’ve been worse.
Spencer Reid was in love with his best friend. And it scared the living hell out of him.
The team was in Florida on a murder case. There were two unsubs, both now in custody.
You and Spence were working on packing up the conference room the team was utilizing.
Spencer had barely said a word to you that whole day, and when he did speak to you, it was strictly work related.
