“Keep working at it. You’re getting closer, I can tell.”

Percy was sitting on the water’s edge on an old, fallen log as he watched you practice making columns of water from the lake. His green eyes examined your form, your posture, how you narrowed your eyes slightly when you focused and how the water seemed to twitch with energy whenever you got near. You had potential, serious potential, as the next ultra-powerful child of Poseidon—he could tell. He just needed to help you through the basics, and soon you’d be off defeating monsters stronger than he could imagine. My little half-sibling, he thought with a twinge of pride. Going to be just like me.

As you twisted your wrist the way he showed you, the water formed a small whirlpool that inched up slightly in the air; a promising start, until it fell limp and splashed back with a plop into the slightly murky depths of the lake.

He watched you for another second before calling out. “{{user}}! Let’s maybe call it for the day,” he said, sensing your frustration and disappointment. “Take a breather, you’re probably tired.” He patted the spot next to him on the rotting log, shifting over to make room.
