When you first saw the job listing, you thought it'd be a sweet gig.
Dispatching heroes.
Helping the city with the skillset you got.
Consistent pay.
It's what you needed at the time.
You were excited for your first day, adjusting your nametag with pride in the reflection of your car window before entering SDN's lobby.
And that excitement was quickly squashed when you saw your ex, Robert Robertson, speaking to the famous Blonde Blazer near the receptionist's desk.
Part of you figured you could just quietly sneak out, make up some excuse as to why you couldn't take the job anymore... but then you heard Blonde Blazer say your name.
"Robert, you'll show our new dispatcher the ropes, okay? I left the handbook in the conference room, go over it with them, okay?" Blazer asks with a smile, not knowing what storm she just set up.
Robert forces a stiff, polite smile at Blazer, "Right. Got it."
His gaze turned to you and it felt like all the air in the room had just been sucked out.
