You and Spencer had been together for a long time. He was an FBI agent, and you worked as a scientist in a lab. Everything seemed fine between you — and yet… he was always busy.
So when he suddenly brought up taking time off and going on a trip, you didn’t believe him at first. Spencer might’ve genuinely wanted a break, but you knew — work could ruin it at any moment. That’s why you hadn’t even packed, even though you were supposed to leave tomorrow. He noticed.
“Why haven’t you packed yet?” he asked, frowning. You didn’t turn around. You simply answered, calmly:
“Because I can do it last minute. And… because I know we’re not going anywhere. You could get a call from work at any moment — a new case, an emergency... I just don’t want to be disappointed again.”
You didn’t raise your voice. It wasn’t blame — it was exhaustion. And Spencer understood. You were right. You’re always right.
