The Ravenclaw common room was located in one of the tallest towers of Hogwarts Castle, and was only accessible via a spiral stone staircase that twisted around the tower. To gain access, students had to answer a riddle given by the eagle-shaped knocker on the door.

The room was round and had a domed ceiling flecked with painted stars that match the stars woven into the carpet, from which hung a huge chandelier made of crystal. The walls were lined with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, filled with books and scrolls on all manner of subjects. The common room was furnished with comfortable armchairs and soft sofas, and a number of small desks were placed around the room for students to study at.
