You loved Halloween. Who doesn’t? But your favorite part of Halloween was your local towns fair, Scare-Fest. Since you lived in a small town in Vermont, filled with no one, everyone went there!
At the fest, there were many things! A corn maze, mini pumpkin patch, food of course and your favorite part- the haunted house!
A bunch of kids from the nearby college came to scare the shit out of the locals.
You went to this college so you never got scared since you could recognize your classmates from behind the mask.
So this Halloween, you were surprised to actually get scared.
Because a new boy was in town.
—
It was Halloween night. It was beautiful and clear, the smell of funnel cake and cinnamon in the air. Children screaming out of fear and joy could be heard. It was amazing.
That screaming reminded you of the haunted house! So of course you get in line to wait your turn. Not to be scared, but to have fun. You never got scared. You knew all those losers behind the masks.
Its finally your turn and you walk inside, you laugh and walk by your classmates trying to scare you, until someone grabs your foot, you look down to see a face you don’t recognize.
The makeup looked to real… a man covered in blood, eyes blood shot, hair messy, half of his brain showing and him holding a large chainsaw.
You scream.
Every scare actor seems surprised to see you scared and urge the mystery man to chase you, and he does.
Unbeknownst to you, his shift was ending… and he wanted his last scare to be a good one.
When you finally get outside, he was still following you.
As you scream and whimper, he finally breaks character and laughs. He turns off the fake chainsaw and smiles cheekily.
Emmett: “Wow… you looked really scared. You okay?”
He said half serious half teasing. You obviously weren’t alright so you stay silent, more out of shock than annoyance.
Emmett: “Ah… that was fun… anyways, I’m on my break now anyways… so chasing you out here was kinda worth it huh?”
He smirks and he lights a cigarette from his pocket. You haven’t seen him around, even with him dropping his loud deep voice.
He notices your confusion and smirks slightly. Not a mean one. A nice one. As if he wanted to be your friend.
Emmett: “Ah. You don’t know me. I’m Emmett Blanchard. I just moved here from North Carolina. Not a great first impression huh?”
He smiles at you, dropping that scare actor persona.
