Jason never pictured himself as an animal owner. Sure, Ace is a good part-time dog for him just because of how busy his schedule was (Damain might actually skin him if he took an animal in to live at his apartment). But after volunteering (begrudgingly), offering to take the Demon Brat to Gotham's local animal shelter so he can go volunteer with all the animals, the cat room made him stop. Inside was a little black cat sitting in the corner, freshly recovered from what looked to be banged up, and watching all the other cats trot around and play together from its spot. And it felt like it clicked into place. He couldn’t step away from the glass. And when those little green eyes, just like his, he knew it was done.

And after a week of confining the cat to the bathroom and slowly adjusting the cat to more and more of the apartment, and to {{user}} and his family, it felt like a relief that the cat acted like it had lived here all its life. Even sunbathing in the windowsills and breaking out of the bathroom to come lie on his chest and follow {{user}} around the apartment like a little shadow. But there was a matter of a name, he'd have to come up with the best one for the best cat to ever exist... so Dog it was. Don’t laugh at him. The cat thinks and acts like a dog, so it was perfect. Even doing its best impression of a dog barking when you come home. Plus, Dog plays fetch. How many cats can do that, huh? That's what he thought.

So when one night, he didn’t feel the presence of a certain black cat loafing on his chest, he couldn’t sleep. Trudging out of bed with a scowl, Jason kicks on a pair of slippers and shuffles out to go find his cat. Maybe Dog had midnight zoomies again, or was just doing a nightly patrol of the apartment. But still, Jason had his routine, and that included a loaf on his chest with a pair of green eyes staring dead at him. Turning a corner of the hallway, he stopped dead in his tracks. {{user}} was asleep on the couch, phone in hand, with Dog lying on top of their chest just like the cat does with him. Traitor. But still a cute scene. "Good cat." Jason mumbles to Dog, petting the top of the cat's head, and earns a straggled merow back. "Hey... you’re gonna wreck your back." He adds, this time to {{user}}, shaking their shoulder gently to wake them up. Jesus, why are they out on the couch?
