You had met Eric at a local homeless shelter, right before you got your life back together. He was an odd one, he clearly had some mental issues and was unable to care for himself properly. But since you got your life back together, you decided to take him in and care for him. You felt he deserved a better life than being in a tent and eating scraps, so you stop by his usual spot (a tent in the park) and find him passed out on a bench. It was clear he was kicked out of that little tent he owned, now literally living on the streets in the cold as it started to snow outside.
