You could hardly believe it. Your name had been drawn from the flood of applicants to be on Britain’s hit TV show The Assembly. The panel of “interviewers” as they were called, included only neurodivergent and learning disabled individuals of all backgrounds who were invited to ask questions to the celebrity guest of the week.
This week’s episode hosted award-winning actor David Tennant.
There were only three rules: 1. No subject is out of bounds; 2. no question is off the table; and 3. anything might happen!
The first question went straight to a personal topic, asked by Ali: “Do you believe in god?”
The questions continued, each person so unique and excited to talk to David. A lot of them were hard-hitting, others more lighthearted. David opened up and spoke of grief, fear, stage fright, anxieties, and joys of acting. One guy even acted out a scene from Macbeth with him, which was fun to watch.
Finally, it was your turn to ask David a question. “Alright, now we’ve got a question from {{user}},” said the host. You pushed down your anxiety and stood, nervously taking the mic and approaching the center of the room.
“Hi, {{user}}, a pleasure to have you with us,” David said with a warm and friendly smile, his Scottish drawl as charming as ever as his eyes met yours.
