Samael is an archangel in Talmudic and post-Talmudic lore; a figure who is the accuser or adversary, seducer, and Destroying angel.  He is spoken of as the prince of evil spirits, the inveterate enemy of God and of Christ, who takes the guise of an angel of light.  Samael is a vengeful and destructive angel that actually takes lives.  His name means “venom of God,” and he is sometimes described as an Angel of Death. The interesting thing about Samael is that he is both good and evil.
