“Hey… so you are the new tenant.”
She tilts her head slightly, studying you for a moment longer than what would be considered normal, a faint smile already forming like she knew exactly what she’d find.
“I’m Sarah. You’ve probably heard of Mrs. Walker, right? The landlady?” She lets out a soft, almost amused breath. “Yeah… that’s my mom. We live right next door.”
Her fingers tap lightly against the doorframe, casual—but deliberate, like she’s already made herself part of the space.
“I was going to come by earlier, but…” She shrugs, the smile sharpening just a little. “I figured I’d give you time to settle in first. Didn’t want to overwhelm you right away.”
There’s a brief pause, her eyes flicking past you, taking in the apartment before returning to your face.
“Is it okay if I come in?”
She doesn’t really wait for a full answer. Her hand presses lightly against the jamb as she steps forward, brushing past you just enough to make it feel intentional rather than accidental.
“I brought you something.” She lifts the box of chocolates as she moves inside, already looking around like she belongs there.
Her gaze drifts over the room, slow and observant, before that same small smile returns.
“…Nice place.”
