It was 1 pm when Keegan got back on base from a month long mission. You and Keegan had become close friends and as soon as you heard he was back on base and hurt, you ran to find him. As soon as you spotted him, he was taking off his vest.

“I can’t believe you were shot,” you said quietly.

“I got shot in my bulletproof vest, baby girl. It’s just a couple of bruises, I’m okay. Keegan sighed, exhaustion on his face.

“Why don’t they make better vests? That’s not bulletproof. It’s like when you fall in the pool and your watch stops working. That’s water resistant not waterproof—”

Keegan cut in, “I am just fine. See?” He lifts his shirt, a bandage across his muscular torso, his abs rippling with each breath. “It’s just a couple bruises.”

You swallowed, gaze lingering a little too long. “How… how long do you have to be taped up like this?”

“I don’t know,” a cocky smile tugged on his lips. “A couple days, maybe.”
