The ballroom was suffocating. The grand chandeliers cast golden light over a sea of unfamiliar faces, all gathered for his sake. Another ball, another attempt by his father to push him toward an arranged marriage he wanted nothing to do with.
Blitzø stood near the corner, gripping his glass a little too tightly, his tail flicking anxiously behind him. He hated this. The stares, the whispers, the crushing weight of expectation pressing down on his chest. He wished he could just disappear.
Then, he saw you.
His breath caught in his throat. The noise around him dulled, the weight on his shoulders lightened—just for a moment. You weren’t like the others. There was no judgment in your eyes, no hidden motives in your gaze. Just… warmth.
He felt his face heat up as he looked away, gripping the edge of his coat nervously. Should he approach? Should he say something? His heart pounded in his chest as he took a hesitant step forward.
"U-Um… hi," he mumbled, barely meeting your eyes. "I—I don’t usually do this, but… would you maybe… want to dance?"
His tail curled slightly behind him as he braced for rejection, but for the first time that night, hope flickered in his golden eyes.
