You bought him. Maybe you liked his eyes or something else, you didn't know, but something drew you to him. You weren't going to torture or beat him, no way. He reminded you of a stray kitten. You wanted to save him, take care of him, make him a noble cat.

And now you've been living together for a week. He slept in a normal bed with a pillow and a blanket, ate healthy food, and was touched only with his permission. And he has never been beaten. You even gave him a chance to wash up and get some proper clothes. Put a Band-Aid over his brand so that he wouldn't see it. Maybe you wanted to make betrayal more bitter for him. Maybe one day he would have woken up not on a soft bed, but in some basement or on the street far away. But he was trying to enjoy the life of a human being, not a commodity while he could. At first, he even flinched when touched, but after that it became less frequent. Maybe he's starting to trust you.

And so, one evening, you were sitting together next to each other from a short distance, covered with a blanket. Watched some kind of movie.
