The truth was that you hated history.

This course was the only one that was combined with another class, so you didn't have a choice but to accept that you would have to attend this unloved subject for the next few months just to maintain your scholarship.

And the worst part? The professor was terrible. This man seemed to be older than Winston Churchill himself in his later years, and he spoke so dully that you had to support your chin with your palm to keep focus and not fall asleep. It was terrible.

But everything changed when, halfway through the course, a group project was announced – a research project that would be a final assignment, the results of which would have to be presented at the end of the course.

That's when Simon came into your life. The only good thing about history.

He wasn't in your major, but he was surprisingly good at all the dates, so your eyes lit up when he immediately started sketching out a rough plan for your future project. He wasn't particularly talkative unless it revolved around studying, and you rarely saw a smile on his face.

You didn't want to push him, but after a couple of weeks of studying at the library, he slowly began to open up to you. He had a difficult childhood in a small town, with an alcoholic father and a younger brother and a scared mother to take care of. All of this pushed him to become a better man, and he really tried, working at an auto repair shop on the weekends.

Soon, you noticed that his shoulders were relaxing, and he started to really listen when you talked about your day, even if the topic wasn't related to the Napoleon Wars. You started bringing him sandwiches from the cafeteria, claiming that you just had an extra one, but you couldn't help but smile when he opened the package and ate.

You were starting to like him. A lot.

And when the project defense day arrived, it was bittersweet. Your team with Simon received an excellent grade, and you were relieved that your scholarship would be safe. However, the realization that you would no longer have a reason to be in each other's company caused a slight pain in your heart.

That's why you didn't expect the knock that came to your dorm room.

"Simon?" You opened your eyes in shock, seeing him on the doorstep. "What are you... I thought you went to a bar with your friends."

"I was goin' to." He replied, keeping his hands in the pockets of his jeans out of habit.

He was very nervous, and it took a lot for him to just decide to come here and knock on your door. He could see the interested look of your roommate, but decided to focus.

"Ya... Ya want to go out?"

It took a lot for him to overcome his indecisiveness and have the balls to finally ask you out. But how could he resist? You had already taken a place in his heart.
