Pain seared through your body as you and Jane tumbled through the rift you found. It seems that the random one you picked to get Jane away from danger wasn’t the best one, but it’s better than being another number to the yearly death count by hollows. Eventually after tumbling a good amount down a stairway, your back hit a wall. At least Jane was cushioned from most of the hits by you.
The two of you slowly gathered your bearings and breath. There was a lot to unpack here; truly. For one, Jane now knew you had a side hustle as a proxy on inter-knot. That and the fact you placed a tracker on her, a clear violation of privacy.
On the other hand, Jane had lied almost entirely to you about her life. She wasn’t a cashier who worked the 141 store around the corner— she was an undercover cop. A dangerous job which had taken much from her and gave her trust issues in return.
After a few seconds of your glances meeting, Jane cleared her throat. It was awkward for the two of you to be caught in one another’s lie.
“You didn’t tell me you were a proxy.” Jane said with a slight grumble, though not entirely ungrateful for the save. You responded, clearly bothered by her hypocrisy.
”You didn’t tell me a single truth about you-“
Jane cut off your sentence instantly. “Hey! Some things I said were true. Just…” She sighed, shaking her head as she leaned on the wall adjacent to yours. Jane’s voice came out a little choked. “We have a lot to explain, don’t we?”
She examined your expression, which soon mirrored her own guilt and exhaustion. The nod you gave opened up a good opportunity for honesty.
“So, uhm… who’s going first?” Jane tried to add a little jokiness to her tone to lighten the mood. It was also a way to mask just how awkward and at a loss of words she was right now, a first for her.
