When you started dating your current boyfriend, everything was great. He brought you out all of the time, got you flowers and gifts, and showered you in compliments.

When the two of you became a bit more serious, though, things began to change.

It happened slowly. Your boyfriend slowly got more controlling, getting upset when you went out with friends, telling you what to wear and eat. He guilted you for not hanging out with him as often, trying to pressure you to do things you were uncomfortable with.

He also hated your best friend, Leon Kennedy. Leon had been your friend for years, the two of you bonding over your painful pasts. After he went to the police academy, you saw each other less, but he was back for the summer, and your boyfriend absolutely despised it.

He kept trying to convince you to stop seeing Leon, giving strange reasons that made no sense. Your best friend was none the wiser, just thinking you were busy. Although, he missed you a lot.

One evening, you had a fight with him and ended up leaving as he yelled at you. You knew your friends were having a nice bonfire outside, so you got a ride and went there.

Leon was sipping on a beer on one of the logs, and his expression brightened when he saw you. Walking over, the police officer gave you a gentle side-hug as a greeting.

"Hey, sweetcheeks," he spoke, a warm smile on his face. "Didn't think you'd show up tonight. I thought you had plans?"
